Nintendo 3DS and Wii U Image Share, Twitter and Facebook Sign-in (Nintendo Accounts) to be discontinued next month
Nintendo have just announced that several services available on Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and Nintendo Accounts will be discontinued on October 25th: Image Share on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and Twitter and Facebook Sign-in for Nintendo Accounts.
First, Image Share. Starting October 25th, it will no longer be possible for users on Nintendo 3DS and/or Wii U to share in-game screenshots via social media (namely, Twitter and Facebook) as the Image Share service on both platforms will be discontinued. Naturally, images you’ve already shared on Twitter / Facebook will not be automatically deleted.
Next: Nintendo Account. Starting October 25th, it will no longer be possible to link a Twitter or Facebook account to Nintendo Account. In other words, you will no longer be able to use a Facebook or Twitter account when creating a Nintendo Account (other sign-in options like Google or Apple account will still be available).
This changes means you will also be unable to log-in using a Facebook or Twitter account with an existing Nintendo Account. If you’re already logged in, you will not be automatically logged out, but if/when you’re asked to log-in again, you will have to use the credentials of your Nintendo Account to log-in (or use another log-in option). If you forgot your Nintendo Account password, you will have to go through the usual “Forgot your password?” procedure.
Now, if you also no longer have access to your email address, you will have to contact Nintendo support for them to change it for you.
Naturally, Nintendo removing the ability to link a Twitter and/or Facebook account to a Nintendo Account means that the related My Nintendo missions, where you get some Platinum Coins by linking your Nintendo Account to a Twitter and/or Facebook account will be removed.
