Monster Hunter X: more sales data from Media Create

Today, Media Create published its weekly report for the Japanese video game market, and revealed some additonal sales data. According to them, over 1 979 000 copies of games were sold during Week 48 in Japan, which is an increase of 327.81% compared to Week 47. Obviously, most of the sales are for Monster Hunter X!

Monster Hunter XOn Wednesday, we learned that Monster Hunter X had sold over 1 488 367 units at retail during the first two days. Media Create reveals that the sellthrough ratio for the game is 91.84%, which confirms the game virtually sold out. What’s more, Monster Hunter X not only outsold Monster Hunter 4G at launch, but it also had a better sellthrough ratio (however, this is mainly due to Capcom shipping less copies:

[3DS] Monster Hunter X # <ACT> (Capcom) {2015.11.28} (¥6.264) – 1.488.367 / NEW <91,84%> [Units shipped => 1.620.609]
[3DS] Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate # <ACT> (Capcom) {2014.10.11} (¥6.264) – 1.446.289 / NEW <85,40%> [Units shipped => 1.693.547]

What’s more, Monster Hunter X had slightly better pre-orders than its predecessor:

  • Monster Hunter 4G: 929 000 units
  • Monster Hunter X: 936 000 units

Just like with Monster Hunter 4G, plenty of people went to buy Monster Hunter X without having pre-ordered it first. It looks like the demo version, released on November 19th, managed to convince many players who were still undecided.

Finally, Media Create also gives more data about Hardware sales, and reveals that a total of 196 000 units were sold in Japan during Week 48 (+ 206.19% compared to Week 47). Thanks to Monster Hunter X, sales of the New Nintendo 3DS (including the XL model) increased by 362.53%!
