Shovel Knight amiibo: release dates and details
Yesterday, Yacht Club Games finally revealed the release date for the Shovel Knight amiibo. Unfortunately, there’s some bad news: it will not be released until next year in North America, and only Europe will get it in time for Christmas. Here’s the release dates and the prices:
- Europe: December 11th (£10.99 / 14.99€)
- North America: January 8th ($12.99)
The “delay” for North America is due to production difficulties: Yacht Club Games decided to avoid shipping not enough amiibo, and making life difficults for fans. They preferred to make sure enough amiibo would be available, so delaying the launch was inevitable in order to ensure buying one wouldn’t be a herculean task.
Yacht Club Games didn’t take this decision lightly, as their number 1 priority was to make sure everyone would be able to get a Shovel Knight amiibo easily, and at the standard price. They actually ask fans not to import it if possible, and avoid buying from scalpers: there will be plenty of units available on January 8th, so there’s really no need to spend more than $14.99 for one.
The developers also revealed what the amiibo would do in the game:

Cooperative Multiplayer (exclusive to Wii U)!
- Join a friend’s Shovel Knight campaign and shovel together!
- Use your cooperative skills to help each other out along the way!
- Compete against each other collecting gold and defeating enemies to prove who is the true hero of Shovelry!
- Play with any combination: two Custom Knights, one Custom Knight/one Classic Knight, or 2 Classic Knights.
Exclusive Challenge Stages!
- Battle your way through amiibo exclusive challenge stages that take advantage of the new Custom Knight relics and abilities!
- 5 new solo challenges and 5 new co-op challenges (exclusive to Wii U) await!
