Miiverse getting a complete redesign this Summer

In 2015, updates for Miiverse (Nintendo’s very own social network for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS) have been few and far between. What’s more, they have been significantly less substantial than in the previous years, and it turns out there’s a good reason for that. Indeed, Miiverse is getting a complete redesign this Summer!

There will be three new main features:

– Screenshot Album: you will be able to save your screenshots (up to 100), so you can easily find them again. However, there’s a big catch: this album is just for you, as it won’t be visible to other users (even friends).

– Play Journal: you can access it by opening Miiverse when playing. There, you can post your game experiences, as a journal, and a screenshot will be automatically added to your entries. If you’re playing a game where screenshots are not allowed, you will still be able to post a message, but without a screenshot (obviously).

NB: the Play Journal is a replacement to posting on your own timeline, which means you won’t be able to do so after the redesign.

– New look for the Communities: after the redesign, the Miiverse communities will be divided into 4 different themes.

  • Play Journal: there, you can see the Play Journal entries of other users.
  • Drawings: there, you can find all the handwritten posts for that community (ranked by popularity). NB: you can’t post handwritten entries to the Play Journal or Discussion sections.
  • Discussions: it’s the place to go to chat about the game or asks questions about it. You can also use tags.

Finally, the limitation on posting will change: Nintendo will get rid of the current one, and replace it with something (kind of) less strict. After the redesign, you will only be able to post up to 30 posts or comments a day, but you won’t have to wait between each post. One thing to note: in-game posts aren’t included in the daily total, which means you will be able to post as many of those as you want.

Here’s some screencaps of the re-design:
