MHS – The World of Monster Hunter Stories #3: Otomon abilities

With just a couple of days left until release, Capcom has launched a new video series for Monster Hunter Stories. In this one, the company showcases the various elements of the game, complete with commentary from Lilia (the protagonist’s childhood friend). In the third episode, it’s Otomon abilities we get a look at.

First, we have the Riding Actions: special techniques you can use while riding your monster on the field. There’s several types of Riding Actions (depending on the monster you’re adventuring with), and they allows you to:

  • easily find some items
  • become invisible and walk past enemies undetected
  • dig your way underground
  • break rocks
  • walk across lava
  • swim in water
  • fly in the sky
  • and more…

During battle, monsters can use Active Skills: they’re powerful techniques that can either deal lots of damage (more than regular attacks), or provide support (by healing the party, inflicting a negative status to your oppoents, etc.). By filling up the Kizuna Gauge, you can also use Kizuna Double Actions, where both the Rider and the monster attack together at once for massive damage.

Using a Kizuna Double Action also helps fill up your Kizuna Gauge, and when it’s completely filled, you get various benefits (such as increased stats, for example). More importantly, it allows you to Kizuna Moves: unique and extremely powerful moves that really pack a punch.

Here’s the third episode of The World of Monster Hunter Stories, which is all about Otomon abilities:
