Media Create: some comments about Week 16 and Girls Mode 3 launch in Japan

During Week 16 in Japan, total Software sales reached 381 000 units, which was 99.54% of week 15. Sales were pretty stable, mainly due to the new releases which compensated the drop for games already available.

However, things are a bit grim on the Hardware front, as only 63 000 consoles were sold during week 16: that’s 85.25% of last week. According to Media Create, this is partly due to the fact that the week was just before payday (which means we can expect a rise during Week 17). Week 16 was the worst week of the year so far for Hardware.

The main release of the week was Girls Mode 3: KiraKira Code, with 55 179 copies sold. This new entry in the Style Savvy / Nintendo Present: Style Boutique series didn’t manage to do better than the previous one (released in September 2012), which sold over 66 000 copies at launch.

That being said, Media Create note that the series is known for selling well on long periods of time. After all, the second entry ended up selling over 381 000 copies after a “mere” 66 000 copies during launch week. Therefore, they expect Girls Mode 3: KiraKira Code to reach 300 000 units sold if it keeps the same sales shift as the previous entry in the series (though the difference in release period makes any direct comparison impossible).

Media Create also expect strong sales during Golden Week, partly because of the performance of the complete edition of the second entry. It came out during the same week as Girls Mode 3: KiraKira Code (in 2014), and sold 15 000 units during two weeks (including the Golden Week, from April 28th to May 11th). As a comparison, the game sold 12 000 copies during launch week.
