Media Create: more sales data for Week 16 (JP, 2016), Star Fox Zero

On Thursday, Media Create released its weekly report for video game sales in Japan, providing us with more sales data for Week 16.

During that week, a total of 404 000 games were sold in Japan, which is 132.74% of Week 15 sales. Week 14 was the worst week of the year so far, so it’s only natural that sales would go up during Week 15. That being said, they remain rather sluggish with less than 500 000 units total, despite the release of many more new titles: from 4 last week to 20 this week.

Sales of new games increased as a result, and went from 140 000 units to 172 000 units: they contributed to the overall increase in Software sales in Japan during Week 15. Unfortunately, many of these new entries didn’t really leave an impression, and sold less than 10 000 units…

As seen on Wednesday, Star Fox Zero didn’t do too well with:

  • 8 135 units for the stand-alone edition (30% of all units shipped to retailers)
  • 17 114 units for the bundle with Star Fox Zero + Star Fox Guard (30% of all units shipped to retailers)

Star Fox ZeroAt this rate, it will be rather hard for retailers to sell all units shipped for Day 1, and if Golden Week sales are not good enough, prices will inevitably be slashed.

Here’s a sale comparison from Dengeki:

  • Star Fox Zero: 25 000 units sold (sell-through ratio: 35%)
  • Star Fox Command: 32 000 units sold at launch, 110 000 units LTD
  • Star Fox 64 3D: 32 000 units sold at launch, 116 000 units LTD

Finally, according to retailers report, the sell-through ratio for Kirby: Planet Robobot for the first day is 20%. It may seem low, but it’s actually not usual: Nintendo games (especially ones such as Kirby) usually sell much better during the week-end. And this week is special, as the Golden Week started yesterday, and will last until Thursday next week (which means that retailers ordered lots of copies, hence the “low” sell-through ratio for Day 1).
