Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 5 battle modes, more amiibo outfits

On January 13th, during the Nintendo Switch Presentation, Nintendo revealed Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: an enhanced port of the Wii U game, featuring some additional content (such as new battle courses, new characters, and more… though no new racing courses, it seems).

Thanks to a PR asset dump from Nintendo’s distributor in Poland, we have some additional details about the game, starting with the Battle Mode… modes. It looks like there will be (at least?) 5 of them:

  • one involving Shine Sprites
  • one involving coins
  • one involving Pirahna Plants
  • Balloon Battle (officially revealed)
  • Bob-omb Blast

Also, one the assets shows all 12 logos for the cups, implying there will not be any additional cups besides the 8 from the original Mario Kart 8 release, and the 4 DLC cups. It’s possible more might added via DLC, but it’s easy to imagine Nintendo instead focusing on a brand new game instead.

Finally, we also have the confirmation that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be compatible with even more amiibo than the original version. While we don’t have the complete list of compatible amiibo right now, we already know that the following will allow you to unlock new outfits:

  • Bowser (Super Mario series)
  • Link: Ocarina of Time (The Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary series)
  • Inkling (Splatoon series)
  • Mario (Super Mario series)
  • Isabelle – Winter Outfit (Animal Crossing series)
  • Peach (Super Mario series)

No doubt Nintendo will share more details about the new content and features in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe soon.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch) comes out on April 28th, worldwide.
