Kirby’s Dream Buffet (multiplayer action game) announced for this Summer

This year, the Kirby series turns 30, and it looks like HAL Laboratory prepared more than just one game (Kirby and the Forgotten Land) to celebrate! Nintendo have just announced Kirby’s Dream Buffet, a multiplayer action game where up to 4 players get to roll through various food-themed stages in order to claim victory. It will be released this Summer worldwide.

Here’s the debut trailer:

And here’s some details and screenshots for the game:

Who’s hungry for some multiplayer Kirby fun? This summer, the Kirby’s Dream Buffet game is coming to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, serving up a helping of fun local* or online** multiplayer action through a variety of food-themed courses that even the pickiest of eaters will want to devour.

Kirby’s Dream Buffet finds Kirbys rolling through a smorgasbord of food-themed stages in four rounds of frantic multiplayer fun. Players will race each other through these delicious obstacle courses to collect strawberries as Kirby grows, bumping other players off the stage and using familiar Copy Abilities – or Copy Food Abilities, as they are called in this game – to thwart the competition.

Kirby’s Dream Buffet offers easy-to-understand gameplay for players of all skill levels, but also presents a healthy challenge for those looking to satiate their craving for friendly competition.

Kirby’s Dream Buffet will be released this Summer worldwide. More details about the game, including pricing and the actual release date, will be shared at a later date. Right now, it’s not clear if the game will be available exclusively via the Nintendo eShop or not.

On Twitter, Nintendo of America explains that it will be a digital-only release (the Topics post in Japan also talks about a digital release), while their press release mentions a retail release. It’s possible the game will first launch exclusively on the Nintendo eShop, before a retail release later down the line (with additional content).

Here’s some additional details:

The game is set in a world of delicious food!

This game starts with Kirby arriving at the venue of some sort of gourmet festival. Instead of waiting for the festival to start, his stomach gets the better of him and he tries to help himself with some cake. But just as he’s about to eat it, a mysterious forks suddenly makes him become super small… so small, in fact, that there’s simply no way for him to eat the cake anymore!

But Kirby isn’t the only one to become so small: other colourful Kirby are also thrown into this world of giant food. They start rolling around, trying to fill their bellies with the delicious food all around them.

The gourmet battle of the food-crazed Kirby is about to begin!

In this action game, 4 Kirby compete against each other in order to see who can eat the most strawberries. As Kirby rolls around and eat the strawberries scattered around the stages, he grows larger and larger. At the end, it’s the Kirby that grew the biggest who wins!

Even players who aren’t very skilled at action games can enjoy Kirby’s Dream Buffer for it offers some rather simple controls: you only need to use the control stick!

Fighting over strawberries

The various stages are furnished with lots of cakes, ice cream, and many other types of food. Battles can take multiple forms:

  • racing to the goal where a mountain of strawberry awaits the winner
  • fighting over strawberries falling down
  • hit your opponents to steal their strawberries
Kirby turns into candy!

Like most Kirby games, Kirby’s Dream Buffet features some Copy Abilities. By eating the “Copy Food” found throughout the stages, Kirby can turn into candy and use various powers. Copy Abilities allow Kirby to eat strawberries around him, blow opponents away with a shockwave, and more. You can completely turn the tables if you use them at the right time!

Kirby’s Dream Buffet (Switch) comes out this Summer worldwide.
