[Japan, Taiwan, S. Korea] Famitsu and Media Create sales for Week 6, 2021 (February 01 – February 07) [Top 30]

Here’s the latest sales reports from Famitsu and Media Create, with Hardware and Software sales for Week 6, 2021 in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea!

Famitsu (Week 6)

Week 6 was a calmer week for the video games market in Japan. On Nintendo Switch, there is no entry to be foud in the Top 10 Software, though the usual evergreen titles are still there and kicking.

Nobody will be surprised to find Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! again at the top with 56 283 units sold (-29% compared to last week), which brings total sales to 1 846 039 units since launch (retail-only). It’s the 12th and final consecutive week at the #1 rank for the game, which will have to step down for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury next week. Of course, it’s still going to hang around in the Top 10 Software for a long while!

Unfortunately, there’s no particular highlights this week. The usual evergreen titles on Nintendo Switch are still enjoying great sales, with some even selling more than during Week 5. Pokémon Sword and Shield is steadily making its way towards the 4 million units milestone (though technically, it’s already there if you count last year’s bundle with the DLC).

This week, Nintendo Switch dropped below the 100 000 units threshold for the first time in 2021, though it should be but temporary: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury comes out next week, alongside the special Super Mario 30th Anniversary model (even if shipments for the latter are said to be limited), and so sales should rebound.

The Nintendo Switch sold 88 485 units this week (down from 114 170 units last week), which is about 12 000 units less than last year during the same week. It’s the first time in 2021 that sales are down Year on Year, but again, it should be but temporary.

Starting from Week 8, the Nintendo Switch was impacted by massive shortages last year (caused by the Covid-19 pandemic messing up production in Chinese factories) , but there should be no such shortages this year. Therefore, the gap between 2021 and 2020 is going to start increasing again starting with Week 7 (when the Nintendo Switch sold “only” 80 000 units.

YTD sales for the Nintendo Switch now stand at 963 874 units: the 1st million units milestone will be hit next week! In comparison, sales stood at 742 456 units as of Week 5 last year. As for LTD sales, they now stand at 18 304 248 units, including 3 274 666 units for the Lite model, and 15 029 582 units for the OG model. That’s yet another milestone for the original model, by far the most popular of the two.

Finally, the Nintendo 3DS sold 824 units this week, up from 588 units last week and 580 units during the same week last year. YTD sales now stand at 3 662 units, with LTD sales at 24 562 570 units.
