[Japan, Taiwan, S. Korea] Famitsu and Media Create sales for Week 27, 2020 (June 29 – July 05) [Top 30]

Here’s the latest sales reports from Famitsu and Media Create, with Hardware and Software sales for Week 27, 2020 in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea!

Famitsu (Week 27)

Week 27 was a rather quiet week for the Japanese market, with just one new game in the Top 10.

That game is the late port of Catherine: Full Body, which didn’t do too well: it only sold 6 917 units, which is even less than the PlayStation Vita port (7 980 units at launch). Considering this is the late port of the ehanced port of a game originally released on PlayStation 3 nearly 10 years ago (back in 2011!), it’s unlikely Atlus had lofty expectations for it. Unfortunately, it will most definitely be from the Top 10 (possibly even the Top 30) by next week.

Highlights this week include:

  • 08./12. [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo) – 7.111 / 3.744.880 (+13%). The release of the latest bit of DLC had a positive impact on sales.

This week again, the usual evergreen titles on Nintendo Switch enjoyed solid sales (either slightly up or slightly down).

Animal Crossing: New Horizons saw a bigger drop than other games due to its sales being directly impacted by Nintendo Switch shortages (many people buy the game with the console, since they don’t already own it). It sold 53 506 units this week (-24%), which brings LTD sales to 5 058 226 units. And Ring Fit Adventure also saw a big drop (-45%), once again due to shortages. It still managed to sell 19 285 units though, bringing total sales to 1 092 799 units.

Famitsu – Hardware

This week saw a big drop in Nintendo Switch sales (almost -50%), once again due to shortages. Nintendo was only able to ship 52 250 units, and the only way for anyone to get their hands on one of them was still via one of the infamous lotteries at retailers. Unlike in February and March, both the OG and the Lite models have been equally impacted by shortages these past few weeks and months.

For the first time in long while, Nintendo Switch sales are actually down Year on Year (75 481 units were sold during Week 27 2019). Of course, it’s not enough for 2019 YTD sales to have any hope of catching up with 2020 YTD sales, as the gap between the two is still well over 1 million units (2 719 132 units vs. 1 559 361 units). LTD sales now stand at 14 102 563 units, with 2 366 495 units for the Lite model, and 11 736 068 units for the OG model.

As for the Nintendo 3DS, its sales are perfectly flat with 933 units sold this week (vs. 944 units last week). The handheld sold 2 550 units during the same week last year. YTD sales now stand at 34 273 units (vs. 132 905 units as of Week 27 2019), and LTD sales stand at 24 530 420 units.
