[Japan, Taiwan, S. Korea] Famitsu and Media Create sales for Week 11, 2021 (March 08 – March 14) [Top 30]

Here’s the latest sales reports from Famitsu and Media Create, with Hardware and Software sales for Week 11, 2021 in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea!

Famitsu (Week 11)

This week, there’s only one entry in the Top 10 Software: the latest entry in the long-running A-Train series. A-Train: All Aboard! Tourism is off to a good start with 16 179 units sold. In comparison, the first Nintendo 3DS entry sold about 22 000 units at launch (and nearly 50 000 units LTD). This Nintendo Switch game should be able to do as well (including digital).

Highlights this week include:

  • 01./01. [NSW] Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (Nintendo) – 41.734 / 518.121 (-22%). It’s now sold over 500 000 units, and there’s little doubt it will end up selling well over 1 million units in the end.
  • 05./02. [NSW] Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town (Marvelous) – 12.917 / 248.990 (-62%). Another sharp drop.
  • 09./05. [NSW] Bravely Default II (Square Enix) – 9.720 / 122.622 (-51%). It would appear that Square-Enix are still struggling to cope with demand, and new shipments are clearly not enough.

This week was a rather uneventful one. Pretty much all games saw a soft drop in sales, with the exception of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town and Bravely Default II (and the two for different reasons).

This week, Nintendo Switch sales dropped to 72 610 units, primarily due to shortages impacting the OG model (you can see that sales for the Lite model are fairly stable with 33 659 units sold).

The situation isn’t anywhere near as bad as it was last year during the same period, but it’s getting harder to find the OG model in stores. Demand for the console remains unsually strong, and things are not going to change any time soon with the upcoming release of Monster Hunter Rise.

Last year, the Nintendo Switch sold “only” 57 274 units, which means the gap between 2021 and 2020 sales just got a little bit wider: 1 388 373 units have been sold so far this year, vs. 1 025 215 units last year.

So far, the Nintendo Switch has sold 18 728 747 units since launch, and the next milestone (19 million units) should be reached during Monster Hunter Rise week. The OG model account for 15 315 653 units, and the Lite model for 3 413 094 units.

As for the Nintendo 3DS, it sold 872 units this week (up from 790 units last week, but down from 1 362 units last year). YTD sales now stand at 7 621 units (down from 13 208 units last year), and LTD sales at 24 566 529 units.
