Last November (December in Japan), the ill-fated Wii U celebrated its 10th Anniversary. The console itself was discontinued years ago, but Nintendo still accepts repairs for the device itself and its accessories (such as the Wii U GamePad). However, that repair service is about to end in Japan.
According to a notice posted in the Support section of its official website, Nintendo will stop accepting requests for Wii U repairs in the near future. The reason? The company is running out of components for the console and its accessories. The repair service will end as soon as the company runs of spare parts to use for repairs. The actual end date will depend on how quickly it goes through the remaining stock of spare parts.
All Wii U models / colours are impacted, as well as accessories (Wii U GamePad, etc). Do note that Nintendo will stop repairing accessories at the same time as the console, unless it runs out of parts for them first.
As usual, this notice only applies to Japan specifically, but given that the same parts are used worldwide, other countries/regions are bound to be impacted. Therefore, if you need your Wii U and/or its accessories repaired, make sure to contact your local Nintendo Support service to get sorted before it’s too late!
