Japan – Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright was more popular than Conquest at launch

On Wednesday, Media Create revealed its sales number for Week 26 on the Japanese market. It was during this very week that Fire Emblem Fates, the latest title in the Fire Emblem series, came out, and it’s definitely off to a great launch (the best one for the franchise). After all, over 302 000 copies of the game were sold at retail, across all three versions (Birthright, Conquest, and the Limited Edition with both games).

But which one was the most successful: Birthright or Conquest? According to Media Create, it’s Birthright, with over 154 000 copies sold (vs. 107 000 for Conquest). Is it because this version is said to be more accessible than Conquest? One thing to note is that players can buy the second version (route) of the game as DLC, and with a significant discount: it costs only 2 000 Yen!

Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait for official sales number from Nintendo in order to find out how many units both versions of the game sold at retail and on the Nintendo eShop.
