[Japan] Famitsu sales for Week 32, 2019 (August 05th – August 11th) [Top 30]

Here’s the latest sales report from Famitsu (and Media Create), covering Week 32, 2019 in Japan.

Famitsu

Week 32 was pretty “light” when it comes to new releases, with only a few of them and pretty low sales overall. The best-selling one is Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet – Complete Edition, with 11 770 units sold (sell-through: 40-60%). That’s actually better than the re-release on PlayStation 4 (about 8 000 units at launch), but of course, worse than the original (about 81 000 units at launch). With Obon, the second week drop should be better than usual for a re-release.

In comparison, Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization sold about 17 000 units at launch. The initial release of Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet also sold less than Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, so it makes sense that their re-releases on Nintendo Switch would follow the same sales patterns.

As for the retail version of Tetris 99, it sold 2 528 units at launch, with a low sell-through: 0-20%. Low sales were expected for this game, which has been available for (partially) free for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers for months already. It should sell pretty decently on the long term, as it represents a nice alternative for players interested in buying their first Nintendo Switch Online subscription at retail.

Finally, the budget re-release of Puyo Puyo Tetris sold 1 780 units at launch, with a better sell-through than Tetris 99 (20-40%). This is a pretty standard performance for a budget re-release.

Next, here’s how other games in the Top 10 Software sold this week:

  • 01./01. [NSW] Super Mario Maker 2 (Nintendo) – 35.846 / 490.415 <80-100%> (-2%). Sales are flat thanks to the Summer holidays. It will reach 500 000 units at retail next week;
  • 02./03. [NSW] Fishing Spirits: Nintendo Switch Version (Bandai Namco Games) – 22.803 / 94.427 <60-80%> (-5%). As expected, a strong performance during the Summer holidays. It will reach 100 000 units at retail next week;
  • 03./02. [NSW] Fire Emblem: Three Houses (Nintendo) – 19.616 / 198.550 <80-100%> (-45%). Retail sales remain unremarkable. It will reach 200 000 units at retail next week;
  • 04./05. [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo) – 11.877 / 3.197.298 <80-100%> (+19%). Healthy boost thanks to the Summer holidays;
  • 06./06. [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) – 9.883 / 2.399.290 <80-100%> (+10%). Third Summer holidays season for this re-release of a Wii U game, and sales remain quite strong;
  • 07./08. [NSW] Minecraft (Microsoft Game Studios) – 8.919 / 876.162 <80-100%> (+17%). Closing in on the 900 000 units milestone (it should hit it before the end of the month).
  • 09./19. [NSW] Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Let’s Go, Eevee! (Pokemon Co.) – 8.019 / 1.598.153 <80-100%> (+111%). A rather impressive increase this week, probably partially due to the Nintendo Switch bundle;
  • 10./07. [NSW] Olympic Games Tokyo 2020: The Official Video Game (Sega) – 7.632 / 25.368 <40-60%> (-8%). Sales are more or less flat, pointing toward long-term potential.
