[Japan] Famitsu sales for September 2023 (Top 5 Software, Publishers, Hardware)

Here’s the latest sales report from Famitsu, with Hardware and Software sales for September 2023 in Japan (August 28th to September 24th 2023, so 4 weeks in total).

Famitsu

Top 5 Software

For the third month in a row, Pikmin 4 was the best-selling game in September in Japan. In fact, it was the only game to sell over 100 000 units during that month, bringing total sales to 864,229 units. There’s little doubt it will end up selling well over 1 million units by the end of the year. The retail release of Pikmin 1 + 2 also saw a good start with nearly 24,000 units sold.

Despite sales dropping by 31%, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe grabbed one spot in the Top 5 Software with nearly 40,000 units sold. Next month, it will reach the 5.5 million units milestone at retail alone. Unless the next Mario Kart game comes out much earlier than expected, it will have no trouble selling over 6 million units.

Finally, both Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Minecraft make their comeback in the Top 5 Software this month. The two are evergreen titles, but the former was helped by the release of Wave 1 of the Expansion Pass (The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero).

Publishers

Once again, Nintendo was the most successful publisher in Japan with nearly 400 000 units sold in September. Sales are down significantly compared to August (600 000 units sold), but that’s hardly surprising given the lack of notable releases.

Bandai-Namco was the 3rd most successful publisher with 51,000 units sold. Sales mostly coming from evergreen titles like Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival and the launch of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 – Deluxe Edition.

  1. Nintendo – 386.000
  2. From Software – 55.000
  3. Bandai Namco Entertainment – 51.000

Hardware

Hardware-wise, September was a solid month for the Nintendo Switch. While it did see a drop in sales, those didn’t drop below 300,000 units (and with Super Mario Bros. Wonder and the Mario RED OLED Model in October, they’re unlikely to do so before next year!).
