Indie news (July 29): Shovel Knight JP localisation, Quest of Dungeons crossbuy

Today’s Indie news:

  • Shovel Knight
  • Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse
  • Quest of Dungeons
  • Soul Saga
  • Noitu Love: Devolution

Shovel Knight

Last month, Shovel Knight was released in Japan (on June 30th). For the Japanese localisation, Yacht Club Games went and partnered with 8-4 (who also worked on several Nintendo projects in the past, including Xenoblade Chronicles X), in order to provide the best localisation possible.

Yesterday, Yacht Club Games published an extremely lenghty blog post about that Japanese localisation, but also about the localisation of several other NES games. It all makes for a really interesting read, especially if you love to read about localisation in general (even if you don’t really care about Shovel Knight)!

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse

In Japan, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse got a retail release via Intergrow (Japanese publisher). Unfortunately, Europe and North America didn’t get such a release, but it looks like it will change soon… at least in North America!

As spotted by Hero of Legend, GameFly started listing Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse on their website. This implies that a retail is in the works, courtesy of Maximum Games it seems. GameFly listings are usually pretty accurate (they certainly were for Darksiders Warmastered Edition).

In fact, Rising Star Games as pretty much confirmed they were the publishers for that retail release. Unfortunately, we don’t know if only North America is getting it or not (would be surprising since Rising Star Games is based in Europe).

No doubt WayForward will make an announcement in the (near) future!

Quest of Dungeons

This week, David Armador announced that the Wii U version of Quest of Dungeons would release on September 1st in Europe (North American date TBC, with more news about the Nintendo 3DS version coming soon).

And today, it was announced via NintendoLife that Quest of Dungeons would be cross-buy on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS (even if the two versions will not launch simultaneously). Simply buying one version will be enough to get the other for free… no strings attached!

Soul Saga

Today, a blog update for Soul Saga was posted. It covers the following topics:

  • Development Status
  • Music, with another soundtrack sample
  • Cutscenes workflow
  • Cutscene features
  • Interactive environments
  • and more…

Noitu Love: Devolution

According to Mathias Kaerlev, the development of Noitu Love: Devolution is now complete. The reason no release has been announced so far is because the team is waiting for the right time to release the game. In other words: players will have to wait a little bit longer before being able to play the Wii U and/or Nintendo 3DS version of the game!
