Louis (voiced by Haruki Ishiya in Japanese) is a royal castle knight of the Kingdom of Firene. The armour he wears is quite massive. He’s described as a gentle person who always takes care of his companions and loves to see them get along.

Louis’s base class is Armored Lance — a heavily armoured unit that uses lances in battle. His defense is high, but magic is his big weakness.

The following video shows a conversation between Louis and Alear. It looks like Louis likes to quietly watch his companions from afar, which seems to puzzle Alear…

Celica (voiced by Touyama Nao in Japanese), frequently referred to as the “Emblem of Echoes” is both the princess of a bountiful country and a Warrior Priestess. She’s the sole survivor of the royal family of the Kingdom of Zophia, on the foreign continent of Valentia.

Celica possesses high magical power, which is why characters wearing her Emblem Ring will see their magical powers increase.

The following video shows a conversation between Celica and Alear. Unsurprisingly, she pledges to lend a hand in protecting peace!

Céline (voiced by Akari Kitou in Japanese) is the first princess of the Kingdom of Firene, and Alfred’s little sister. She’s described as a gentle person, full of innocence, as well as a philanthropist always striving to end conflicts in a peaceful manner. That being said, she is more than willing to take up arms in order to protect peace.

Just like Alfred, Céline’s base class is Noble. She can use both magic and swords to dispatch enemies.

The following video shows a conversation between Céline and Alear. Céline is the princess of the peaceful Kingdom of Firene, and is beloved by her people.

Alfred (voiced by Ryouhei Kimura in Japanese) is First Prince of the Kingdom of Phyrene (official English name TBC!). He’s a refreshing young man who fights alongside the Divine Dragon. He’s a kind, hardworking, and happy-go-lucky person who also happens to love flowers!

Alfred’s base class is Noble. As a heir of the royal familily, he rides horses and wields the spear with unparalleled skills.

The following video shows Alfred meeting Alear. It looks like he often visited them while they wear asleep, and so he’s quite surprised to find out they have finally awakened.

Marth (voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa in Japanese) is one of the Emblems, frequently referred to as the “Emblem of Beginnings”. He’s a noble and charismatic person — a Hero among Heroes. He’s the prince of the Altea Kingdom, located on the foreign continent of Arachanea.

As an Emblem, Marth excels with swords. When a character is wearing his Emblem Ring, they are more likely to dodge enemy attacks.

The following video shows Marth having a discussion with Alear. It appears that Marth was watching over Alear as they were sleeping all along!

Framme (voiced by Sayaka Senbongi in Japanese) is a 33rd generation Dragon Guardian, tasked with protecting the Divine Dragon in the Holy Land of Lythos. She’s more determined and full of energy than Clanne, her twin-brother.

Framme’s base class is Monk. As a Monk soldier, she can not only heal injured allies, but also take part in combat. She’s mastered the art of self-defense using Qigong.

The video below shows Framme introducing herself to Alear. While she is indeed a Dragon Guardian, she comes off more as a fan of Alear than his guardian.

Clanne (voiced by Kouhei Amasaki in Japanese), is the 33rd generation Dragon Guardian, tasked with protecting the Divine Dragon in the Holy Land of Lythos. He protects Alear alongside Vander.

Clanne is Framme’s twin brother, and the two of them were by Alear’s side when they woke up. He’s described as a calm and collected person who admires Alear.

Clanne’s base class is Mage. He can use spellbooks to cast spells, and specialises in attacking enemies from a distance as well as hitting heavily armoured units.

Here’s a video of Clanne introducing himself to Alear, which showcases his kind demeanour. You can also see how his braid is on the opposite side to that of his twin sister.

Vander (voiced by Youji Ueda in Japanese) is the 32nd generation Dragon Guardian, tasked with protecting the Divine Dragon in the Holy Land of Lythos. He’s described as a reliable companion who has sworn allegiance to Alear, and vowed to protect them many years ago. He’s a fairly serious and strict person who puts his mission as Guardian above all else.

Vander’s base class is Paladin. As an experienced and high-ranking knight, he rides into battle on a horse, which grants him high mobility. He uses a mighty axe to smash enemies.

Here’s a video showing a conversation between Vander and Alear. You can really tell how much he cares about them as the Dragon Guardian tasked with protecting Lythos and the Divine Dragon for generations:

Fire Emblem Engage features the usual tactical gameplay the series is known for, with battles taking place on maps divided in squares. You move your units around the battlefield, taking into account various factors such as the characteristics of your units (and those of your opponents) before deciding which actions to take.

The protagonist can awaken the power of “Emblems” from other worlds thanks to magical items known as Emblem Rings. Those Heroes are characters from past Fire Emblem games, such as Marth or Celica for example.

Wearing those rings allows Alear and their allies to harness the power of Emblems, which has two main benefits: it raises their stats, and it allows them to use even more powerful abilities.

Also, when those Emblems and a unit Engage (they merge), they can unleash a powerful special move.

Alear’s base class is Dragon Child. As the descendant of a dragon clan that has lived since ancient time, Alear can use Divine Dragon Swordsmanship.

Here’s a video showcasing Alear’s base class:

In the announcement trailer, it was revealed that Fire Emblem takes place on the Continent of Elyos. It consists of four kingdoms and a holy land known as Lythos. The story is about a conflict between humans and evil dragons from 1 000 years ago, with a certain Fell Dragon about to reawaken and plunge the world into chaos once more.

The protagonist is one Alear (voiced by Hiro Shimono (male) and Aya Endou (female) in Japanese), a Divine Dragon. A thousand years ago, after the Fell Dragon was sealed, they went to sleep in the Holy Land of Lythos. But one day, they suddenly wake up, and find themselves unable to remember who they are. It looks like sleeping for a thousand years does quite a number on your memory…

And in case you’re wondering: yes, you can choose to play with either the male or female protagonist. You can even choose their name, the default one being Alear.

Vander is a Dragon Guardian, one of the individuals who, throughout the generations, have protected the Divine Dragon slumbering in the Holy Land of Lythos. Needless to say, he’s quite surprised to see Alear suddenly wake up from their thousand year slumber!

Here’s a video showcasing Alear waking up and being greeted by Vander:

Fire Emblem Engage (Switch) comes out on January 20th worldwide.
