Today is Friday, which means it’s time for the weekly website update for Etrian Odyssey V. But this week, we’re getting more than just some artworks and screenshots: there’s also a soundtrack sample, and a surprise announcement that’s definitely going to please fans of retro music!

Soundtrack

Let’s start with this announcement, which was made during the 3rd episode of the Etrian Odyssey Web Radio. Yuzo Koshiro was one of the guests, which explains why the main theme of the episode was the soundtrack. And naturally, the announcement is related to the soundtrack, which is getting some DLC.

It was announced that Etrian Odyssey V would get a soundtrack DLC, that will add a FM synthesis version of the music tracks. Thanks to that, players will be able to switch from the “original” soundtrack (with live instruments) to the FM synthesis soundtrack at any time, just like in the Etrian Odyssey Untold remakes.

If you’re a fan of the old-school soundtrack of the first three Etrian Odyssey games, this is a DLC you will certainly not want to miss! Unfortunately, it’s not clear whether this DLC will be free or paid. All we know is that it will be released at a later date (following the game’s launch), and the the “arrangements” were done by the one and only Yuzo Koshiro himself (just like the “original” soundtrack).

During the livestream, we got a sample of that FM synthesis soundtrack: the Normal Battle theme!

During that said livestream, we also got a sample from the “original” soundtrack: the Adventurers’ Guild theme!
