Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons – Ver. ??? (Sacred Reunion)

1. Three New Playable Characters

 

SONNY LEE

Sonny is the lazy distant cousin of the Lee brothers. Just like Billy and Jimmy, he has practiced the art of Sōsetsuken since he was young, but he has a hard time keeping up. Instead, he opts to give the ancient technique his own creative spin and now wanders the streets to test the might of his new moves.

RANZOU

A mysterious young ninja from a secret organization known as the Secret Society of Ninjas. Ranzou has no stake in the fate of New York, but he is sent here by his organization as a test of his ability.

CHIN SEI MEI

Chin Sei Mei is the younger brother of Chin Tai Mei. While he was originally set to take over as the master of the Moko Gazanken Dojo, but he left the dojo in shame after learning of what his brother China Tai Mei has done.

2. Online Co-op

You’ve asked for online co-op and it’s finally here! Matchmake with your friends or a random warrior online with our drop-in/drop-out Co-Op OR play online with our new game modes: Survival and Versus.

3. Versus Mode

Challenge your friends in intense 2-player battles with the newly introduced Versus Mode. Select two characters and upgrades to battle against your friends to prove who is the ultimate Dragon Warrior.

4. Survival Mode

Test your skills and endurance in Survival Mode, where you’ll face wave after wave of randomized enemies in ever-increasing difficulty levels. With the option to play solo or team up with a friend, Survival Mode offers a relentless challenge that will put your combat prowess to the test. Not for the faint of hearted.

5. Six Unlockable Stages

One, two, three, four, five, SIX stages! Unlock a variety of captivating stages for both Survival and Versus Modes, adding depth and visual flair to your battles. Many stages have unique environmental hazards, and can be unlocked through the Token Shop.

6. New Upgrades

Explore a range of new upgrades, including special move enhancements. Find your balance and experiment with new combinations to become the ultimate tag-team force.

  • Release date: September 21st 2023 (North America) / September 22nd 2023 (Europe, Japan)
  • Patch notes:
Movement Break Changes
  • Light brake/land no longer limits player’s movement.
  • Heavy brake/land duration are shortened.
Invulnerability Changes
  • Player characters are invulnerable when performing throw and slam.
  • Player characters are invulnerable when knocked, unless they bounce off the wall.
  • All grapple special moves are invulnerable if the player grabs the target successfully.
  • Jimmy’s SP3 is invulnerable for a few frames on startup.
  • Uncle Matin’s SP3 is invulnerable for a few frames on startup.
  • Chin Tai Mei’s SP3 is invulnerable for a few frames on startup.
  • Linda’s SP1 is invulnerable for a few frames on startup.
  • Duke’s SP3 is invulnerable for a few frames on startup.
Command Run Changes
  • Billy, Jimmy, Chin Tai Mei and Linda will perform a dodge roll when initiate running
  • When performing a dodge roll, they are invulnerable and can pick up items and weapons except dynamite.
  • Uncle Matin, Burnov and Willy pushes the target when initiate running
  • Duke teleport and becomes invulnerable when initiate running
  • Abobo have armor property when running
  • Anubis will disappear and becomes invulnerable after running for a while
Miscellaneous Gameplay Changes
  • Projectile and thrown weapons Z-Axis hitbox size has been reduced.
  • Frequency of enemies attacking from out of screen has been reduced.
  • Certain special moves for some characters have had minor buffs.
  • Breakable object can also be broken with 2 stunlock hits.
  • Since players were buffed with more invulnerability, the overall difficulty has increased (especially in earlier missions).
  • HP recovered from hotdog has been reduced to 15.
  • HP recovery from burger has been reduced to 40.
Miscellaneous Quality of Life Changes
  • Mission Select’s gang evolution cutscene can now be skipped.
  • Gameplay tips have been added to Now Loading scenes.
  • Through the option menu, players can choose to make defeated enemies disappear over time.
  • Through the option menu, players can enable/disable screenshake.
  • Through the option menu, players can enable/disable double tap forward to run.
  • Through the option menu, players can enable/disable controller vibration.
  • Through the option menu, players can enable/disable each HUD and floating HUD element.

  • Release date: August 24th 2023 (North America) / August 25th 2023 (Europe, Japan)
  • Patch notes:
  • You can turn on/off Crowd Control notification in the option menu.
  • When you respawn, all enemies on screen will be knocked down to provide you a safe entry. –
  • Fixed and reduced softlock
  • Fixed leaderboard data error
  • Improved loading efficiency by 20 to 40% (Nintendo Switch)

How to download updates for Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons for the Nintendo Switch?

To download the updates for Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, you have three options:

  • let the console do its thing if you have automatic downloads activated, and didn’t completely turn it off

If not…

  • try to launch the game from the Home Menu while being connected to the internet. You should get a prompt when doing so: simply follow the instructions on screen;

OR

  • select the game > press either + or – to go to the Options page > select Software update > select Via the Internet.

To check that you have the latest version installed, simply select the game on the Home Menu, and press – or + to go to the Options: the version number is displayed just below the game title.
