Dai Gyakuten Saiban: short interview of the voice actors
Yesterday, Capcom updated the official website for Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodou Ryuunosuke no Bouken.
Besides the new info and screenshots/artworks from Famitsu, they also published a short interview of each of the voice actors for the game. Each time, they asked the same two questions:
Q1. What were your thoughts after you finished auditioning?
Q2. What kind of impressions do you have regarding the character you play? Could you tell us anything you felt during recording?
Hiro Shimono (Naruhodou Ryuunosuke)
1) Since his role was highly demanded (it’s the protagonist), he initially had his doubts about whether he had passed or not. He initially thought his audition didn’t go too well, but he was quite proud of his ‘Objection’ voice.
2) Even though he believes Naruhodou Ryuunosuke is a rather hot-blooded and upfront character, he made him seem like a frantic newbie (following the suggestion of the staff). During the audition, Shu Takumi (Game Director) told him to “give him a little more dignity sometimes”, which is why he gave a really intense performance, while keeping in mind the inexperience of his character.
Mikotoba Susato (Kana Hanazawa)
1) She looked forward to the results of her audition. She’s glad she got to meet Hiro Shimono, who plays Naruhodou Ryuunosuke.
2) She finds Mikotoba Susato really charming, with both a serious and comical side. Just like Naruhodou Ryuunosuke, this was a highly demanded role, so she was unsure she had gotten it. During the recording, she really felt the tension of the courtroom while acting her role (being in one really isn’t an everyday situation, after all). During the audition, she portrayed Mikotoba Susato as a woman of courage and faith.
Shinji Kawada (Sherlock Holmes)
1) He was quite relieved to get the role, as this game is the latest entry in a very popular series, and Sherlock Holmes is a really famous character.
2) He finds that Sherlock Holmes is a cool but sometimes absentminded character, who is very funny and charming. During the audition, he worked with the staff to create this character via his acting. For him, it felt like they were breathing life into their own creation, little by little, from multiple sides. He really gave it his all during the audition.
Misaki Kuno (Iris Watson)
1) She really had a lot of fun during the audition.
2) She finds Iris really charming, as she’s both young and intellectual. It’s for this reason that she went with an earnest impression of a young prodigy during recording.
Kenjiro Tsuda (Baroque Bangieks)
1) He had lots of fun during the audition, especially with how courteous and polite the staff was.
2) He believes that Baroque Bangieks is a character that never shows much emotion or zeal, but he wanted to let him show a bit of zeal whenever possible… It wasn’t really easy, as he always keeps his cool no matter the situation (even during heated arguments), so he had to try and find the right balance between cool and zeal.
Yuichi Nakamura (Kazuma Asougi)
1) He explained that he didn’t get a lot of material to work with during the audition, but he spent a lot of time focusing on the subject matter.
2) He believes that Kazuma Asougi’s “core strength” is quite different from Naruhodou Ryuunosuke’s. What’s more, being a lawyer in the 19th century is definitely different from being a lawyer nowadays, so he acted his role based on that difference.
Takayuki Sugou (Narrator)
He explains that recording for this role was plenty more work than he thought it would be, as getting the right tone wasn’t that easy. At first, he put a lot of effort into it, but they came to run low on time so he tried to get through it quickly… but it didn’t end too well. It was quite hard to find the right balance during acting, but he still enjoyed it.
