Bravely Second: Q/A from today’s livestream (April 21st) + recording
During today’s livestream, Tomoya Asano (Producer) and Takahashi Masashi (Assistant Producer) answered lots of questions from fans regarding Bravely Second: End Layer. They gave lots of small (but still important) details about the game, but be careful: some of the questions and answers may contain spoilers.
But before the Q/A, here’s the recording of today’s livestream:
Q1: What’s the concept of Bravely Second?
A1: They always tried to keep in mind that it was a sequel, that they had to do even better than the the first game (Bravely Default).
Q2: How many chapters are there in Bravely Second?
A2: It’s a secret to everybody.
Q3: Who’s in the party during the adventure?
A3: Magnolia, Yuu, Tiz and Edea. The party stays the same during most of the game.
Q4: What’s the connection between Bravely Default: Praying Brage (a browser game) and Bravely Second?
A4: The developers didn’t give a clear answer, but confirmed that playing Bravely Default: Praying Brage is absolutely not needed in order to enjoy Bravely Second.
Q5: How many years after Bravely Default is Bravely Second set?
A5: 2.5 years.
Q6: What happened to the big hole seen in Bravely Default?
A6: Hmmm…
Q7: Is it possible to visit “old” towns from Bravely Default?
A7: They showed a video. The appearance of the “old” towns have changed. Apparently, you can warp to any town you’ve already visited by talking to a pig (that’s on top of the usual methods of transportation).
Q8: What about Ringabel?
A8: It’s a secret to everybody.
Q9: Are there other special cutscenes like the opening one?
A9: It’s a secret to everybody.
Q10: What’s the real name of Geist (Asterisk holder for the Exorcist job)?
A10: It’s a secret to everybody.
Q11: Why is Tiz on the cover?
A11: They actually forgot they hadn’t talked about this yet.
Q12: Will be a Director’s Cut-like release (à la “For the Sequel”, like Bravely Default) for Bravely Second?
A12: It seems they don’t have plans for a “For the Trilogy” version of Bravely Second: End Layer. They do want to release something every year, but not necessarily an updated version. Actually, they don’t even know what they would add to such a version of Bravely Second.
Tomoya Asano also explained that they wanted to make a third game, but that they’d like to release something different than an expanded version of Bravely Second: End Layer in-between.
Q13: There’s a stuffed animal in the pod in which Tiz was confined, in the special movie at the end of Bravely Default. What’s its meaning?
A13: The developers explained that it was initially Victoria’s pod, so that plushie was probably hers.
Q14: In the Barter Sub-Scenario System, you have to chose among two jobs when settlings disputes between Asterisk holders. What happens to the one you don’t pick up?
A15: They didn’t give an answer, and they didn’t tell if there was some secret jobs either. In other words: players will have to play the game to find out!
Q15: Are there jobs with abilities that overlap?
A15: Some jobs may seem similar at first glance, but they’re definitely not the same.
Q16: Are there new special attacks for the various weapons?
A16: Yes, they even showed a video for them. What’s more, there’s also new weapon types in Bravely Second: End Layer.
Q17: Are there changes in the full version of the game, compared to the demo?
A17: Yes, lots of small, subtles changes.
Q18: Is there an option for English language?
A18: No.
Q19: Is it possible to talk to cats with the Cat Master job?
A19: Yes, if you have the Cat Master job, you can understand what cats are telling you when you talk to them in towns.
Q20: In the demo, the monsters came in various sizes. Is that the case in the full game?
A20: Yes.
Q21: Will the collaboration items be available later as paid DLC?
A21: They explained that they wouldn’t release any paid DLC for the game.
Q22: Will there be special events for the game once it has launched?
A22: Yes, those will be revealed at a later date.
Q23: WIll there be a New Nintendo 3DS cover?
A23: Apparently, they’re working on it.
Q24: Will there be a Nintendo 3DS Theme?
A24: Yes, at launch.
During the livestream (see the recording above), they also gave some additional details about the game. They confirmed Bravely Second: End Layer would also get a special website (most likely via Square-Enix members, like Bravely Default), where players will be able to upload their save data, access events, achievements, and more.
Players with save data from Bravely Default will be able to get a special item, so they can keep the Freelancer costume even if they use a different job. Of course, there will be another way for players to get it in the game, the only difference is that a Bravely Default save file will allow them to get it right from the start.
Finally, they talked about the Maou (or Demon Kings): special bosses you can battle on the Lunar Base. Six of them will be distributed from April 24th to April 30th, with 2 of them being brand new.
