Animal Crossing amiibo cards: launch of the second series delayed in Japan

In Japan, Nintendo launched the first series of Animal Crossing amiibo cards on July 30th, along with Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (the first game to use them). Unfortunately for fans, Nintendo really underestimated demand, and shortages became common right out of the gate (some stores are taking advantage of this, and offering paid rental of amiibo cards!).

Nintendo even apologised for the shortages, and sent more cards to retailers this week. Unfortunately, it looks like this wasn’t nearly enough, as demand still far outweights supply: Nintendo warns that shortages are bound to continue for a while longer, but promises new shipments by the end of the month.

The problem is, Nintendo has trouble keeping up with demand, which is why the company has decided to postpone the launch of the second series of amiibo cards (originally slated for September). Instead of producing Animal Crossing amiibo cards from the second series, the production lines will be used to make more cards from the first series in priority.

The launch date of the second series of Animal Crossing amiibo cards will be announced at a later date.
