7th Dragon III code:VFD is the fourth entry in the 7th Dragon series, and it came out last week in Japan (on October 15th). On Wednesday, we learned that the game had sold 72 477 units during the first four days: a pretty good performance, but slightly worse than the previous entry on PSP. Today, Media Created shared some comments about those sales in its weekly report.

7th Dragon IIIFirst, we learn that the sellthrough ratio for 7th Dragon III code:VFD is pretty good: 77.05%, which implies that SEGA shipped 94 065 copies of the game for launch. In comparison, 7th Dragon 2020-II (on PSP) sold 73 697 copies during the first week, with a sellthrough ratio of 68.93% (106 916 copies shipped to retailers for launch).

In other words, 7th Dragon III code:VFD may have sold slightly worse than its predecessor, but the difference isn’t all that great (besides, digital sales via the Nintendo eShop are not taken into account), and the sellthrough ratio is better. What’s more, Media Create reveals that pre-orders for 7th Dragon III code:VFD were better than for 7th Dragon 2020-II:

  • 7th Dragon III code:VFD: ~44.000 units
  • 7th Dragon 2020-II: ~38.000 units

According to Media Create, fans have been pretty loyal to the series, and still bought the game despite the change in platform (the previous two entries came out on PSP). Overall, 7th Dragon III code:VFD performed pretty well (better than we initially assumed), which is definitely great news for fans of the series and for SEGA. Now, it just to remains to be seen how well it’s going to sell in the upcoming weeks!
