Pokémon GO: new feature coming, get catch bonus when you earn medals

In the past couple of days, Niantic has launched Pokémon GO in almost 40 additional countries. However, that doesn’t mean the company has been focusing exclusively on those launches: developers have also been hard at work on new features, including one that catch bonuses.

With that new system, you will be granted catch bonuses when you earn medals based on catching certain types of Pokémon (Kindler, Psychic, Gardener, etc.). That way, catching Pokémon from the same type as the medal will be even easier. What’s more, the higher tier the medal, the better the catch bonus is (+1 for bronze, +2 for silver, and +3 for gold).

Niantic gives an example with the Kindler Medal: with a higher tier Kindler Medal, your bonus to catch Fire-type Pokémon such as Charmander, Vulpix, and Ponyta increases. How to increase the tier of your medals? Catch many Pokémon of the same type… pretty straightfoward!

Now, you might be wondering what happens when you catch a Pokémon with more than one type (like Pidgey, who is both Normal and Flying type): when you catch one, the bonus will be the average of your bonuses for each type.

Here’s some screenshots for that new system:

Unfortunately, we don’t know when this new feature will be added to Pokémon GO, but it’s most likely safe to assume the update will be released within the next few weeks (before the end of the month).
