Bye-Bye BoxBoy! releasing on March 23rd in Europe/North America, trilogy demo available (EU)

Last month, Nintendo released Sayonara! BoxBoy! in Japan. It’s the third entry in the popular BoxBoy! series, and it’s coming to Europe and North America sooner than you were expecting (especially given the delay between the Japanese and western release for the first two). Indeed, it will be released on March 23rd in those two regions!

The game will cost 4.99€ / £4.39 / $4.99, and will only be available on the Nintendo eShop. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the trilogy or the Qbby amiibo will be released at retail, though at the very least, the bonus tied to the amiibo will still be available in-game (see below for more details).

Just like its predecessors, Bye-Bye BoxBoy! offers a lot of puzzles, with no less than 180 levels. In this game, Qbby goes on a journey through space, in order to explore several planets. Each one features their own challenges, with unique playstyles and different colour schemes.

Levels are filled with various obstacles to overcome, and you have nothing but your wits and some boxes to do so. But Bye-Bye BoxBoy! features new type of boxes: some can soar in the air, other can explode, and there’s even special boxes that allow you to teleport from one place to another.

There’s also a new type of levels, where you have to ensure safe passage for not just Qbby himself, but also the Qbabies. As a matter of fact, those Qbabies are the one granting Qbby the power to create new types of boxes.

Players looking for a challenge can take on the Challenge Worlds, with different rules and spiced up difficulty. For example, you will be asked to complete levels without jumping or… creating boxes. Naturally, there’s also crowns to get in those levels, too.

Speaking of crowns, those can be spent to buy new challenges, comic strips, music tracks, and special costumes for Qbby. Already have BoxBoy! and BoxBoxBoy? All your costumes will carry over to Bye-Bye BoxBoy (10 for the first, and 8 for the second).

But there’s more: if you have both, then you can unlock some bonuses, such as Qucy (a playable “character”), and a GameBoy filter. If you don’t have the first two games in the series, you can unlock those goodies by collecting every single crown in the game. Unfortunately, it’s not clear if scanning the Qbby amiibo unlock those goodies in the European (and North America) version, like in the Japanese one.

If you have absolutely no BoxBoy! game (you’re missing on some really sweet puzzle action!), why not download the demo version from the Nintendo eShop? It features levels from all three BoxBoy! games: BoxBoy! BoxBoxBoy!, and Bye-Bye BoxBoy!. It is now available on the Nintendo eShop in Europe.

Finally, if you have one of the amiibo from the Kirby series (Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede, or Waddle Dee), you will be able to unlock special costumes for Qbby!
