As we mentioned when Gurumin 3D: A Monstrous Adventure was announced for the Nintendo 3DS, Nihon Falcom games are a pretty rare things on Nintendo consoles. While there are definitely a few notables releases, they are pretty few and far between. And yet, it’s a Nihon Falcom game that was announced for the Nintendo Switch during the latest Nintendo Direct Mini… Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana!
And just like several other games, this Nintendo Switch version of the latest entry in the long-running Ys series (one of the longest-running JRPG series, alongside Final Fantasy) comes courtesy of NIS America, who is going to port the game themselves and publish it in Europe and North America. In Japan, it’s Nippon Ichi Software that will publish it.
Like several other Ys games, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana begins with Adol (an adventurer) on a boat (a passenger liner to be precise), but unfortunately for him, it ends up sinking and he drifts to a deserted island.
And just like Lady Luck would have it, that island happens to be inhabited by vicious creatures, that have evolved in many different ways. In order to survive on that island, Adol has to gather fellow shipwreck survivors, and build a base. Gameplay-wise, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana offers high-speed battles, where players need to switch between three types of characters in order to take advantage of enemies’ weaknesses.
Here’s the list of key features, as well as an overview of the game’s premise:
Ys returns with a brand-new adventure for the first time in 8 years! Adol awakens shipwrecked and stranded on a cursed island. There, he and the other shipwrecked passengers he rescues form a village to challenge fearsome beasts and mysterious ruins on the isolated island. Amidst this, Adol begins to dream of a mysterious blue-haired maiden living in an unknown world. Join Adol as he unravels the riddle of the cursed isle and the blue-haired maiden Dana in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA.
- An Epic Tale: Follow Adol and his companions on his latest adventure to uncover the mysteries of the cursed island.
- Another Side: Unravel the mystery of the blue-haired maiden Dana through her own unique gameplay segments.
- It Takes a Village: Rescue your fellow shipwrecked passengers and bring them to your village where they will provide valuable services.
- Party On: Switch characters on the fly as you battle ferocious foes in lightning-fast combat.
