Yooka-Laylee: first assist character revealed (Trowzer)

Yesterday, Playtonic revealed the very first assist character for Yooka-Laylee: Trowzer. As you can see with the artwork below, Trowzer is quite the unique serpent, as he wears shorts (and not trousers!). He’s described as a businessman whose career never really took off, but isn’t even aware of it (even though his downbeat apearance and 1980 mobile phone are dead giveaways).

But what does Trowzer does exactly? Well, if you give him some money, he will teach you some very useful moves. What’s more, he’ll even demonstrate the moves you’ve bought, so you can try and replicate them.

Here’s an artwork for Trowzer:

In the Kickstarted update, Steve Mayles (character artist) explains that he didn’t want Trowzer to be a snake in the traditional sense, so Gavin Price (Creative Lead) suggested he wore shorts (probably because they’re comfy and easy to wear). Steve then had an idea: have the body curl back up the other leg hole. Therefore, whenever Trowzer moves, he will do so with a “certain springiness”, which will apparently be quite fun to animate.

Yooka-Laylee will come out on Wii U.
