Yo-kai Watch 2 headed to Europe on April 7th

In Japan, it’s with Yo-kai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke that the Yo-kai Watch series got really big. The first game debuted with rather modest sales, and it’s when the anime series began airing that sales boomed. And when the second entry came out, sales skyrocketted: the two versions sold more than 1 million units at launch, and all versions combined have sold over 5 million units to date.

Will the same happen in Europe? It’s definitely possible, and we will soon have the answer to that question! Nintendo announced today that Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits / Fleshy Souls would be released on April 7th in Europe. Just like in Japan and North America, two separate versions will be released, each featuring some exclusive Yo-kai (5 in total, that can be traded with other players).

This sequel offers several new features, including several online multiplayer mode, but also medal trading. When you win in online battles, you can get some points, that can be used to purchase special item.

There’s also 100 brand new Yo-kai, including Hovernyan, that you will travel to the past with in order to discover the origins of the Yo-kai Watch. But finding Yo-kai isn’t everything: there’s also over 80 sidequests to tackle!

Finally, first-print copies of the game will come with an exclusive Yo-kai medal, that can be used to unlock an exclusive Soultimate move for Jibanyan in-game.

Here’s some screenshots and the boxart for both versions:

Quite interestingly, Nintendo will offer a Russian localisation for Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits / Fleshy Souls, something they didn’t do for the original. Considering language barrier is a real issue for kids (the main audience for a game like Yo-kai Watch), it’s definitely good news that the sequel will have Russian text.

In North America, Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits / Fleshy Souls didn’t sell well, which isn’t too surprising as it came out mere weeks before Pokémon Sun and Moon. In Europe, the Yo-kai Watch franchise seems to have caught on much better, as so far, sales in Europe of the original are ahead of Japan (during a similar timeframe).

Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits / Fleshy Souls (3DS) comes out on April 7th in Europe. The Upcoming Releases page has been updated!
