Update

According to VideoGamer, LEGO’s toys-to-life game is called LEGO Dimensions.

After Activision (with Skylanders), Disney (with Disney Infinity), and Nintendo (with amiibo), will LEGO be the next company to jump into the very lucrative business of toys-to-life games? With several hundred million figures sold to this day, and billion of dollars in sales, it’s no wonder that the LEGO Company would also be interested.

According to Video Gamer, Warner Bros. Interactive is currently working on a LEGO toys-to-life game (which would come with a range of compatible LEGO figures), supposedly coming out later this year according to an industry source familiar with the project. This game would be in development at TT Games, already responsible for pretty much all the LEGO video games in the past decade.

Of course, Warner Bros. Interactive refused to comment the rumour, though Tim Wileman from TT Games recently said to VideoGamer than the studio was always looking for ways to “push the boundaries” of the franchise, and told fans to “watch this space”. Is that an actual tease, wishful thinking, or a diplomatic to say “we can’t tell you”?

Since the toys-to-life market is quite the lucrative one, the idea of LEGO launching its own toys-to-life game certainly isn’t really far-fetched. What’s more, it’s not the first time we’re hearing such rumours… If anything, one can wonder why it’s taking so long for LEGO to launch such a game!
