According to Oricon, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Original Soundtrack album was the #11 best-selling album in Japan during its launch week with 8,409 units sold.
That’s a pretty big drop compared to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Original Soundtrack, though it’s not unexpected: not only is the album a fair bit pricier (5,000 Yen vs. 13,200 Yen for the cheapest editions of the Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom soundtracks respectively), but the Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles series also saw a big drop in sales for their most recent soundtrack albums.
Also, the market is much different these days than it was 6 years ago, with physical media sales seeing notable drops year after year (though they are holding relatively well against the relentless onslaught of digital music platforms).
Billboard Japan reports better sales for the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Original Soundtrack. It ranked #9 in the Top Album Sales ranking with 11,568 units sold. The album also ranked #10 in Billboard Japan’s Hot Albums ranking.
