Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: new update available (Ver. 1.0.9)

Update

Nintendo confirms that this new version is just a “stability” update. Just like the previous update, replay data recorded with version 1.0.7 or older will not work with this new version (1.0.8 seems fine, though). Also, updating is mandatory if you wish to play online with other people.

On June 14th, Nintendo released a massive content update for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. During the video presentation for the game, Masahiro Sakurai announced that another update would come out in August, in order to add the long-awaited Tourney Mode.

But that doesn’t mean we will have to wait until next month before getting another update for the game. In fact, Nintendo released  one a few minutes ago! Unfortunately, this is most likely one of the infamous “stability” updates, with the usual “adjustments made in order to provide a more pleasant gaming experience”. We will have to wait for the official changelog before finding out.

To download this new update for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, you have two options:

– let the console do its thing if you have automatic downloads activated. You should have the latest version of the game the next time you turn on your console and launch the game.
– trigger the download manually by launching Super Smash Bros. for Wii U from the Wii U Menu (it won’t work from the Quick Launch menu, which bypasses the update check).
