Splatoon 2 releasing on July 21st, 4 player co-op mode revealed, new amiibo, more

During today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo shared some more details about Splatoon 2. To be more precise, a brand new game mode was revealed: Salmon Run, which brings four player co-op to Splatoon.

In this mode, you team up with friends, and take part in a… “part-time job” that involves battling the Salmonid speices (which is even more lethal than the Octarian, if the serious researchers from the Squid Research Lab are to be believed). In this mode, if a player falls in battle, they can be revived by their teammates, by getting inked. You can find more details about the mode in the video below!

During the presentation, it was also announced that Splatoon 2 would be released on July 21st worldwide, alongside 3 new amiibo figures: Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and Inkling Boy. Just like in Splatoon, those amiibo allow you to unlock some special limited gear, but this time, there’s more to the amiibo figures.

If you tap the amiibo, the figure’s character appears in the game. If you befriend that character, it will remember your favorite weapons, gear, outfits, and option settings. That way, if you ever go playing Splatoon 2 at a friend’s, you can bring your amiibo with you… and then get everything as if you were playing on your own console! This also allows you to quickly switch to your favorite setup after experimenting a bit with weapons and outfits, for example.

By the way, Splatoon 2 is compatible with all Splatoon amiibo: this includes those from the first one, on Wii U!
