Splatoon 2 Global Testfire event taking place this week-end

Update: Nintendo Treehouse play livestream on Friday!

***

Before Splatoon was released, Nintendo held several Splatoon Global Testire events. It was basically a playable demo for the game, that players could try online ahead of the game’s release. It was also a way for Nintendo to do a stress test of their servers, to see if they would be able to hold out once the full game was available.

And if you thought it would be great for Splatoon 2 to get a similar demo, you’re in luck! Nintendo just announced the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire event, that will take place from March 24th to March 26th. Just like the previous one, players will only be able to play during specific sessions, listed below. It’s unclear whether there will be other play sessions later down the line, since the game will be released this Summer after all.

Just like the first one, players will need to download the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire demo from the Nintendo eShop in order to participate, and battle against Inklings from all over the world.

Nintendo specifies that this demo is the exact same one that’s been demoed at the various Nintendo Switch hands-on events. It features four different main weapons, including the new Splat Duellies, and remixed versions of the Splat Roller and the Splat Charger.

Two stages will be playable during the Splatoon 2 Global Testfire event (and will be chosen at random):

  • The Reef
  • Musselforge Fitness

And players will be able to use the following weapons:

  • Splat Dualies
  • Splattershot
  • Splat Roller
  • Splat Charger
  • Curling Bomb (sub-weapon)
