Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night – Wii U version finally cancelled, Nintendo Switch version confirmed

Most fans will say that the writing was on the wall, but yesterday, Koji Igarashi finally confirmed it: yes, the Wii U version of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been cancelled. Instead, the game will be released on the Nintendo Switch.

The team was originally going to make an announcement later, once that new version was further underway, but since word got out early (thanks to Nintendo!), they decided to just come out and make their announcement.

Here’s a message from Koji Igarashi, explaining why they decided to move Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to the Nintendo Switch:

Hello, this is IGA.

Thank you for always supporting us. I would like to give a message to the backers who pledged for the Wii U version of Bloodstained.

During our Kickstarter campaign, the Wii U was at the height of its popularity, but the situation has drastically changed after the release of Nintendo Switch.

This change made it difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker, which has led us to drop the Wii U development and shift the development to Nintendo Switch.

We are very sorry that it has come to this after all your support, but we hope you will understand. We would like to respond by preparing options for our backers, such as moving your pledge to another version or requesting a refund if you don’t want any other version.

We hope you will continue to support us.

Now, if you asked for a copy of the Wii U version of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night during the Kickstarter campaign, you’re probably wondering about what you have to do now. If you’re interested in the Nintendo Switch version, here’s some good news… you have nothing to do! It replaces the Wii U version in the backer survey automatically.

If you haven’t filled the survey yet, the Nintendo Switch version has replaced the Wii U one, so you only have to select it in there. If you picked the Wii U version but want to change to another platform, you can go the survey and make the change now.

Finally, if you just want a refund, you can get one as long as you meet the followin criteria:

  • You filled out your backer survey and selected the Wii U version prior to this update.
  • You backed at an unlimited tier ($28 to $500)
  • You are able to receive a refund via PayPal
  • You submit your refund request before the April 20, 2017 deadline.

If you’re eligible for a refund and backed at a tier that included two copies of the game, including the Wii U version, you can adjust your tier to its single-copy equivalent.

To request a refund, send an email to orders@fangamer.com with “Bloodstained Wii U refund.” as the subject. Make sure to include the email addresse associated with your PayPal account, too. If you’re not a backer yet, you can do so on this page.

In the next Kickstarter update for the game, three characters that Miriam meets during her adventure will be introduced.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (Switch) will be released in 2018. The Upcoming Releases page has been updated.
