Project NX: Nintendo denies the rumours about Android

Yesterday, Nikkei (a respectable Japanese newspaper) posted an article about Nintendo’s NX platform, claiming that the company was planning to use Android as its Operating System. Usually, Nintendo never comments on rumours, even though there’s been quite a few notable exceptions in the past few years.

But this time around, Nintendo wasn’t satisfied with a simple “No comment”. Contacted by the Wal Street Journal, a Nintendo spokeperson said that “There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX”.

Does that mean that we have the guarantee the NX platform will not use Android? Actually, no, as the company has outright denied many rumours in the past, and quite a few of them actually ended up being (at least partially) true. Quite simply, Nintendo may be trying to control its communication around the NX platform: after all, the company has clearly said (several times) that nothing would be announced until next year.

In other words, it’s impossible to say, right now, whether the NX platform will or will not use Android as its OS with any certainty.
