Pokémon GO

Today, a special event for Pokémon GO in Japan was announced. Until November 23rd, Laplas will be more common in the following regions: Miyagi, Iwate, and Fukushima Prefectures.

Speaking of Pokémon GO, gamesindustry.biz published an interview with Mike Quigley (CMO of Niantic) about Pokémon GO and other topics. It discusses things such as Pokémon GO launching in Summer and how things are going to evolve once Winter settles in, the size of the development team, and more.

Here’s an excerpt:

“A lot of people give us credit for the summer release timing, but we also saw strong pick-ups in places like Australia and Brazil, when it was winter for them. There’s a lot of seasonal dynamics we need to consider. It’s a variable that most developers don’t need to worry about. Hopefully we can learn and figure out ways to keep consumers engaged. Maybe there will be other spikes in corresponding glove and hat and coat sales.”

If you want more, Eurogamer also has an interview with the man. It covers various topics, including issues at launch, third-party apps blocked, listening to community feedback, how long it takes for features to be added, and much more.

Here’s an excerpt:

“There are things we have to test days, weeks, months in advance which might make the timeline hard to pinpoint – even for us,” he says. “We have a high quality bar, as do fans, as do The Pokémon Company. We’re not going to ship features until they hit that. And it’s software development – things slip, things happen sooner or later, whenever they’re ready. That may be a reason why you hear us say ‘yep, that got discovered but we’re not ready to talk about it until its ready for primetime’.”
