Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: latest trailer, special Nintendo Switch OLED model, more

Nintendo and the Pokémon Company have shared the latest news about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (out this November worldwide), with a brand new trailer showcasing some new Pokémon, and more.

But first: a new Nintendo Switch OLED model was announced. Logically called Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet Edition, it will launch on November 4th worldwide for $359.99 / 38 980 Yen. And just like the Splatoon 3 OLED model, it does not include a copy of the game.

Here’s a trailer for this new OLED model:

And here’s some details, the list of key features, and some pictures:

On Nov. 4, the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Edition system will be available at select stores, featuring art inspired by the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games (sold separately). The Legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon are featured on the glossy front side of the white system’s dock, and a design inspired by the series’ iconic Poké Ball is featured on the back. The back of the system itself is adorned with special illustrations of the three Pokémon you can choose as your first partners in the game – Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly – along with illustrations of symbols players may recognize as they journey through the games. The Joy-Con controllers, which match the main colors of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, feature the school emblems of the Naranja Academy and Uva Academy that appear in the respective games.

Nintendo Switch – OLED Model features a vibrant 7-inch OLED screen, a wide adjustable stand, a dock with a wired LAN port (LAN cable sold separately), 64 GB of internal storage, a portion of which is reserved for use by the system, and enhanced audio in handheld and tabletop mode. The Nintendo Switch – OLED Model system can be played in three modes: TV mode, played on a TV while the system is docked; handheld mode, when the Joy-Con controllers are attached for portable play; and tabletop mode for on-the-go multiplayer gaming sessions.

  • Legendary Pokémon printed on the white dock: The white dock features the legendary Pokémon Koraidon and Miraidon on the glossy front and a design inspired by a monster ball on the lower left of the back.
  • Original illustrations of the first partner Pokémon: Special illustrations of the three Pokémon you can choose as your first partner in the game, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly, are printed on the back, along with illustrations of various symbols that appear in the game.
  • Special colored Joy-Con controllers: The special-colored Joy-Con controllers, which match the main colors of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, feature the school emblems of the Naranja Academy and Uva Academy that appear in the respective games.

And now, on to the game itself! Here’s the latest trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet:

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will feature three different stories for players to enjoy, including one where you get to challenge the usual Gyms around the region:

In Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, players are enrolled in a school that will host an independent study project themed, “A Treasure Hunt.” Three stories will be woven into the player’s adventures while traversing the sprawling Paldea region:

Victory Road: Players will go to Gyms in different locations to achieve Champion Rank.
Path of Legends: Upperclassmen Arven will join the player in search of rare ingredients called Herba Mystica.
Starfall Street: Players will challenge Team Star, a group of delinquents causing trouble for the school.

These stories are set in an open world teeming with Pokémon and people to meet, so players can determine which path to take and explore however they desire.

Also, a new feature was introduced: Let’s Go!, that allows you to send a Pokémon in the direction you indicate:

Players can have one Pokémon out and walking with them in the Paldea region’s great outdoors. When they have a Pokémon exploring with them in the field, players can use the “Let’s Go!” feature to send that Pokémon off in the direction they indicate. The Pokémon the player sends out then independently picks up items in the area and even has Auto Battles with nearby Pokémon.

Naturally, some brand new Pokémon were also revealed!

In addition to new regional Pokémon found across both Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, different species of Pokémon will appear depending on which game the player purchases. Armarouge can be encountered in Pokémon Scarlet and Ceruledge can be encountered in Pokémon Violet.

Here’s details about those new Pokémon:

Armarouge
Armarouge’s set of armor belonged to a distinguished warrior and is the source of the energy used for its Psychic-type moves. It also uses the psychic capabilities of this armor to control the fire energy within its body and unleash attacks.

  • Category: Fire Warrior Pokemon
  • Type: Fire/Psychic
  • Height: 4’11”
  • Weight: 187.4 lbs.
  • Ability: Flash Fire

Ceruledge

Ceruledge dons an old set of armor steeped in grudges and wields blades made of fire and ghost energy. In battle, these blades transform into great swords to increase Ceruledge’s power. Cuts from these great swords leave wounds from which life energy will flow.

  • Category: Fire Blades Pokemon
  • Type: Fire/Ghost
  • Height: 5’3”
  • Weight: 136.7 lbs.
  • Ability: Flash Fire

Klawf

Klawf can rotate their protruding eyeballs to see everything around them, eliminating all their blind spots. They can latch upside down onto cliffs to ambush their prey from above, however, they eventually get dizzy from the blood rushing to their heads, so they cannot stay upside down for very long.

  • Category: Ambush Pokémon
  • Type: Rock
  • Height: 4’3″ (1.3 m)
  • Weight: 174.2 lbs. (79.0 kg)
  • Ability: Anger Shell / Shell Armor

But that’s not all: a new Pokémon was revealed last week: Grafaia.

Grafaiai is a moody Pokémon with a fastidious disposition. It doesn’t form packs, preferring to roam alone, and it is constantly caught up in territorial struggles with other Pokémon. Grafaiai specializes in using its poisonous saliva—which changes color depending on what the Pokémon eats—to attack foes by spitting at them or by slashing at them after coating its claws with the saliva.

Grafaiai is nocturnal and once the sun sets it licks its hands and fingers to cover them in poison, and uses them to draw patterns on the trees in its territory. The poisonous saliva it uses to paint paralyzes Bug Pokémon, which are drawn to the saliva’s sweet, fragrant scent.

  • Category: Toxic Monkey Pokémon
  • Type: Poison/Normal
  • Height: 2’4″ (0.7 m)
  • Weight: 60 lbs. (27.2 kg)
