Pokkén Tournament
Evo is (by far) one of the biggest fighting game events in the world, with thousands of players from all around the world competing for fame and prizes (there’s some major cash prizes for the best players). This is a major event, and for a fighting game to be included in the Evo roster is a pretty big deal.
Yesterday, the roster for the 2016 edition of Evo was announced, and Pokkén Tournament is included this year (for the first time). Players who want to participate will have to pay an entry free, and bring their own controller.
But not only will Pokkén Tournament be at Evo (which is a pretty big deal in itself), it’s also getting its own tournaments.
Today, The Pokémon Company announced the Pokkén Tournament Championship Series. At Evo, players players will be able to compete for “prizes, as well as invitations and travel awards to the Pokkén Tournament World Championships this August in San Francisco, California.” And during the Pokémon US National Championships, there will be a Pokkén Tournament World Championships event.
