Pokémon GO news (July 6th): 2nd Anniversary & special Pikachu

Today’s Pokémon GO news: 2nd Anniversary event with special Pikachu, but also…

  • Pokémon Storage
  • Yokosuka Safari Zone
  • Articuno Day (Japan)
  • Trading and Friends

Pokémon GO – 2nd Anniversary and special Pikachu

The latest event is, as expected, a celebration for the 2nd Anniversary of the game. It runs from July 6th (today) to July 31st, and features the following:

  • a Summer Style Pikachu (wearing a strawhat and some sunglasses)
  • increase Pikachu spawns
  • Pichu in Eggs
  • a special outfit for your avatar, featuring Pikachu (unlocks progressively based on your Pikachu Fan medal)

Finally, we learn that Celebi will be added soon, though we don’t know when it will start appearing just yet. We do know that it’s via Special Research that you will be able to meet it!

Pokémon GO – Pokémon Storage

As part of the celebrations for the 2nd Anniversary of Pokémon GO, the maximum Pokémon storage space will be increased: you will now be able to store up to 2 000 Pokémon (instead of 1 500 previously). But as usual, you will need to buy Pokémon Storage upgrades from the in-game shop to do so!

NB: this announcement has since been removed from the official website, so it’s unclear if and the Pokémon Storage upgrade will be available.

Pokémon GO – Safari Day (Yokosuka, Japan)

The next Safari Day will take place from August 29th to September in Yokosuka (Japan). During this event, Pokémon such as Feebas, Torchi, Unown, and Tropius will appear more frequently in 3 of the city parks: Mikasa, Kurihama, and Verny. But that’s not all: Shiny Wingull is also going to appear during the event!

You will need a ticket in order to attend the event, and each one is only valid for one day. If you try to scan yours a second day, then armed men will come grab you and take you in their van no Pokémon will spawn for you. You can register for a ticket until July 20th, but if too many people apply, then people will be selected at random.

Pokémon GO – Articuno Day (Japan)

Due to the extreme weather conditions in Japan, Niantic has decided to postpone Articuno Day in that country. It was originally supposed to take place this week-end, but for safety reasons, it has been postponed to an unspecified date. The date remains unchanged for other regions in the world.
