Pokémon GO News (July 13): Global Challenge / Gen. IV teaser / Community Day

Today’s Pokémon GO news: details about the Global Challenge, but also…

  • Gen IV tease
  • Community Day
  • Community Day and Articuno Day (Japan)
  • Special Weekend (South Korea)
  • Safari Zone (Dortmund)

Pokémon GO – Global Challenge

A quick reminder for players: the Global Challenge tied to the Pokémon GO Fest is taking place this week-end. Like last time, there’s a mission to clear in each region, which unlock special rewards. The Challenge runs at the times listed below, but the rewards run from July 16th to July 23rd. The mission is the same in each region: complete 100 000 Research Tasks!

  • Pokémon GO Fest (July 14th and July 15th). Reward = Catch Candy increase
  • Europe (July 14th 1AM BST / 2AM CEST to July 16th 12.59AM BST / 1.59AM CEST). Reward = Hatch Candy increase
  • Americas (July 14th 12AM PT / 3AM ET to July 15th 11.59PM PT / July 16th 2.59AM ET). Reward = Egg distance decrease
  • Asia-Pacific (July 14th 12AM JST to July 15th 11.59PM JST). Reward = Raid Candy increase

If all the missions are cleared worldwide, then Zapdos Day will take place on July 21st. During that day, all Gyms will have Zapdos Raid Battles during a three hour window (the same as Community Days). Zapdos will have Thunder (Fast Movie), and may be Shiny.

But that’s not all: during the event, the following Pokémon will spawn: Shiny Plusle, Shiny Minun, Alolan Geodude, Alolan Graveler, Alolan Golem Alolan Diglett, and Alolan Dugtrio. Finally, Lugia will appear in Level 5 Raid Battles on July 14th and July 15th.

Finally, Lugia is returning to Raid Battles (this weekend only!), and special Pokémon and Raid Battles will appear all over the world.

Pokémon GO – Gen IV Tease

In order to celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of Pokémon GO, Niantic shared an interesting illustration. What’s so interesting about it? Well, it does feature Pokémon that are not available in the game yet, including Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup. This is most definitely a deliberation addition, though we don’t really know when the first Gen IV Pokémon will start appearing in-game.

Pokémon GO – Community Day

The next Community Day has been announced: it will take place on August 11th and August 12th, and will focus on Eevee. As usual, there will be various bonuses running during the event: 3x Catch Stardust, and 3 Hour Lure Modules.

It will run at the usual time on both days:

  • Asia-Pacific: 12PM to 3PM JST
  • Europe, Middle East, Africa, India: 10AM BST to 1PM BST / 11AM CEST to 2PM CEST
  • Americas, Greenland: 11AM to 2PM

Pokémon GO – Community Day and Articuno Day (Japan)

Due to recent extreme weather in Japan, two events had to be delayed in that country: the Squirtle Community Day, and the Articuno Day. Today, it has been announced that both will take place on August 4th, at the following times:

  • Community Day (Squirtle): 3PM to 6PM
  • Articuno Day: 12PM to 3PM

Finally, the XP Bonus earned during the Dortmund Safari Zone a few weeks ago will go live during those two events.

Special Weekend (South Korea)

Today, a second Special Weekend was announced, and it’s for South Korea. During that event, the following Pokémon will appear more frequently: Dratini, Unown S, Unown L, and Unown T. Also, players will ear twice the usual amount of XP.

Like in Japan, you will need to get a ticket from specific retailers/companies: Lotteria, 7-Eleven, and SK Telecom.

Pokémon GO – Safari Zone (Dortmund)

Here’s an official video about the Safari Zone event held in Dortmund a few weeks ago:
