Nintendo Switch: 15 million units sold in Japan, Top 5 Software

Famitsu have sent an early report to announce that the Nintendo Switch has now sold over 15 million units in Japan (15 073 025 units to be precise) since launch. It took the console 184 weeks to reach that milestone (March 3rd 2017 to September 6th 2020).

Here’s a graph showing the evolution of Nintendo Switch sales (with 4 key moments: OG model launch, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launch, Lite model launch, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons launch):

Last week, the Nintendo Switch sold 77 611 units, which is slightly lower than during Week 36 (78 773 units). Despite the end of the Summer holiday season, sales remain at an unusually high level, a feat made even more impressive by the fact that you still have to take part in lotteries to be able to buy the console at all.

Here’s the Top 5 Software for the platform as of Week 35:

  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo) {2020.03.20} (¥5.980) – 5.628.462
  2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo) {2018.12.07} (¥7.200) -3.809.943
  3. Pokémon Sword / Shield (Pokemon Co.) {2019.11.15} (¥5.980) – 3.717.997
  4. Splatoon 2 (Nintendo) {2017.07.21} (¥5.980) – 3.544.763
  5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} (¥5.980) – 3.131.858
