[Nindies@Night] Shovel Knight amiibo confirmed; details and trailer

Yesterday, GAME Brighton posted a picture of a Shovel Knight amiibo, seemingly confirming a rumour that started a couple of weeks ago with a mysterious listing on the website of a Spanish retailer. And as we expected, Yacht Club Games confirmed the amiibo’s existence during the Nindies@Night event, a few hours ago.

Here’s the announcement trailer for the Shovel Knight amiibo:

On their official blog, Yacht Club Games explain that this amiibo is something they have been working on for over a year. They showed some official pictures, but also gave details about the features the figures will give access to:

• Co-op Multiplayer (only on Wii U): you can now play through Shovel Knight with one of your friends, in local co-op. You can even use special cooperative moves.
• Customisation: you can now level up Shovel Knight by defeating enemies and finding treasure. That way, you can get new relics, abilities, and powers. But that’s not all: you can also customise the appearance of Shovel Knight. The best thing? You can use the amiibo and the custom Shovel Knight on both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions!
• New challenge stages: you can play through special challenge stages, available only via the Shovel Knight amiibo. They are based on the new relics and abilities unlocked with the amiibo.

Finally, Yacht Club Games promises to “continue support of the Shovel Knight amiibo in future Yacht Club Games and Nintendo products!”.
