Monster Strike: new character, details on sub-quests, and screenshots/artworks

Monster Strike 3DSA few weeks ago, mixi promised that new details about Monster Strike 3DS would be revealed on a weekly basis. The company picked up Monday for those weekly updates, which mean it’s already time for the latest one! This time, a new character and a new monster are intoduced, we get details about sub-quests, and more!

First, mixi introduces a brand new monster: Volde, which is designed after a butterfly. It’s a powerful monster, but we don’t know anything about its abilities. Apparently, it plays a major role in the story, and seems to have something in common with Rozzo and Bianga (though we don’t know what).

Next, we have two characters:

  • Akira Kagetsuki : one of the member of Homura Ren’s team, seen in the main artwork above;
  • Noda Akane: a member of Team Sun (along with Takaharu Shirahama, Nikkaidou Jun and Takii Sanjou), and another of Homura Ren’s classmates. She always tries to appear calm and grown-up, but she shows her true colours in a scene at a café. It looks like Homura Ren’s team and Team Sun will end up doing battle in the game (most likely as rivals).

Just like most RPGs, Monster Strike on Nintendo 3DS will have sub-quests (side quests), separate from the main story. Clearing those allows you to get items to strengthen your monsters, and more. To trigger them, you need to talk to the various characters appearing in the game. They are said to be quite varied, with fun or scary stories, errands, and more.

According to mixi, Monster Strike will offer players over 60 sub-quests. If you try to complete them all along with the main story, you might well end up playing the game for over 100 hours.

Here’s some examples of sub-quests:

  • Example 1: a ghost story at school. This sub-quests involves the Seven Mysteries of the Kaminohara Junio High School. It looks like students obsessed with monsters are behind it all.
  • Example 2: in this sub-quest, you have to help the assitant of a Professor studying monsters. You will strengthen your deck by completing this quest.
  • Example 3: in this sub-quest, you have to help a maths teacher. For some reason, she’s always wearing a jersey, despite not being a PE teacer: you will have to find out why!

Finally, mixi talks briefly about the Monster Gates: those lead to a world inhabited by monsters, and they start appearing throughout town. One day, a giant gate appears in town, which gradually comes under the influence of that alien world. When that happens, the sky becomes much darker than usual, with a rather unnatural colour, and people starts behaving in an odd way. Obviously, Homura Ren (the protagonist) is involved… there would be no story otherwise!

Here’s the latest batch of screenshots:
