Miitomo: over 3 million users worldwide, April Fool’s amiibo

MiitomoMiitomo came out yesterday in Europe and North America, two weeks after Japan (who got it on March 17th). Today, Nintendo announced that its very first mobile app had been downloaded over 3 million titmes worldwide. Unfortunately, we don’t know the exact number of downloads for each region, but there’s no doubt the western launch greatly contributed to that number.

In Japan, Miitomo was downloaded over 1 million times within the first three days, and topped the download charts for free apps on iOS and Android. In other words, Miitomo was downloaded over 2 million times since March 20th, which is a pretty solid performance. The app even topped the download charts on iOS in the West pretty quickly.

But as pointed out last time, what really matters for a Free 2 Play apps is microtransactions. Unfortunately, we don’t have concrete numbers for those, but there’s no doubt Tatsumi Kimishima will talk about just that during the next meeting with investors, on April 29th.

Talking of Miitomo, here’s an (obviously fake) amiibo figure of Miide Tomoshiru, who’s in charge of the official account on Twitter in Japan:

“Unfortunately”, it will not be released due to it not meeting Nintendo’s standards in quality!
