Level-5: Ni no Kuni movie announced for this Summer (Japan)
In the past decade, Level-5 has put more and more focus on cross-media projects, that combine games with manga, anime series, merchandise, etc.. It’s come to the point where pretty much all non-mobile games released in the past few years have been cross-media: Yo-kai Watch, The Snack World, Layton’s Mystery Journey… And today, it was announced that it was Ni no Kuni’s turn to get the cross-media treatment!
Today, during a press conference, it was announced that a Ni no Kuni movie will be released this Summer in Japan. For those of you not familiar with Ni no Kuni, it started as a special project for Level-5 10th Anniversary. The first game was originally released on Nintendo DS, and was followed by an enhanced version on PlayStation 3, and a sequel on PlayStation 4 and PC.
But it’s alright if you’re not familiar with the series: the movie is said to feature an original story. So far, three characters have been revealed:
- Yuu (voiced by Kento Yamazaki)
- Hal
- Kotona
Here’s the list of people and companies working on the Ni no Kuni movie:
- Executive Producer / Draft / Screenplay: Akihiro Hino
- Director: Yoshiyuki Momose
- Music: Joe Hisaishi
- Original work: Level-5
- Animation: OLM
- Distribution: Warner Bros.
The Ni no Kuni will be released this Summer in Japan. Since the movie will be distributed by Warner Bros., it’s quite likely there will be a western release at one point.
