LEGO The Hobbit: no DLC for the last movie

LEGO The Hobbit is based on the first two movies of the Hobbit trilogy by Peter Jackson (An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug). The final scene of the game actually mirrors the one from the second movie, and many initially thought that the game would get a DLC for the contents of the 3rd movie (The Battle of the Five Armies).

Unfortunately, it looks like such a DLC isn’t going to happen. Warner Bros. Interactive confirmed today that there was no plans for a DLC to conclude the trilogy:

“The LEGO The Hobbit videogame gives LEGO and Middle-earth fans a fun, new way to experience the legendary adventures of Bilbo and company as told in the first two films of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy. The game provides an excellent set-up for the concluding chapter of Peter Jackson’s film, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. There are no plans to develop DLC based on the final film of the trilogy.”

During the London Toy Fair in 2014, it was announced that the game would get a DLC based on The Battle of the Five Armies, but it looks like this report was incorrect. Unfortunately, we don’t know if Warner Bros. Interactive and TT Games really had plans for a DLC to begin with, or if the developers encountered some problem during development.

After all, the game originally came out on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Windows, and OSX, and making DLC for so many platforms may have been too complex and/or costly. We also don’t know whether Warner Bros. Interactive is planning a second game in order to cover the events of the final film of the Hobbit trilogy.
