LBX: Little Battlers eXperience – Details, screenshots, free DLC

Little BattlersToday, Nintendo revealed some new details and screenshots for LBX: Little Battlers eXperience, which is coming out on September 4th in Europe. The game is set in 2046, and you get to play as Van Yamano, a middle-school student who is a big fan of LBX (toys which were previously deemed too dangerous to control, before the Battle Boxes were invented).

Everything begins when Van Yamano receives a special “AX-00” model LBX from a mysterious woman, who claims the toy has the power to either save the world or destroy it. The protagonist soon finds himself in battle against a rival school, but things quickly take a turn for the worse when an evil organisation (called the “New Dawn Raisers”) set their eyes on the “AX-00” model LBX he got from the mysterious woman.

One of the key aspects of the game is customisation: there’s a total 30 different LBX models and over 4.000 individual parts to collect (Weapons, Armor and Core Units).

LBXAs for gameplay, battles take place from a third-person point of view, in Battle Boxes (some sort of cardboard arenas, which are like miniature worlds). You can launch various attacks (from melee attacks or long-range attacks), and obviously, taking advantage of the environment is key to win battles. Each action depletes your Tension Gauge, and when it’s completely empty, your LBX will become much slower and weaker.

Therefore, it its not recommended to neglect your strategy when in battle! You also need to be on the look-out for weakened enemies: you can use Breaking Blows to get rid of them permanently, but if you miss, your LBX will overheat and become much slower and weaker. In other words: the Breaking Blows is a double-edged sword, and you really need to think twice before using it.

Besides the Tension Gauge, there’s the Maintenance Gauge. As you battle with them, the LBX deteriorate: once the maintenance gauge is empty, the various LBX parts won’t earn as many Tune-up Points as usual, so you really need to take care of them.

The game can be played in solo or with up to 6 players (local wireless only). After launch, Nintendo will release new content for the game on weekly basis, up until June 2016 (in Europe). Besides the LBX Cards, Quests and Capsule Toys via SpotPass, there will also be exclusive LBX distributed via Nintendo Zones (with more details to be announced soon).
