[Japan, Taiwan, S. Korea] Famitsu and Media Create sales for Week 7, 2021 (February 08 – February 14) [Top 30]
Here’s the latest sales reports from Famitsu and Media Create, with Hardware and Software sales for Week 7, 2021 in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea!
Famitsu (Week 7)
Week 7 saw the release of quite a few games, including one popular enough to yank Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! away from the #1 spot: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.
This enhanced port is off to a much better start than the original on Wii U, with no less than 250 018 units sold (and that’s only at retail!). In comparison, the game only sold 106 967 units at launch (and 602 234 units LTD) on Wii U. The Nintendo Switch port will have no trouble whatsoever outselling the Wii U version, and sell well over 1 million units in total (especially if you factor in digital sales).
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is but the latest in a series of Wii U games ported to Nintendo Switch that ended up selling significantly better than the original release. It looks like the additions and the fact that it was not released on an unpopular console really helped sales, which is not a really a surprise.
The second entry this week is Little Nightmares II, which is also off to a great start with no less than 35 000 units sold (including 24 470 units for the Nintendo Switch version), In comparison, the first game sold over 12 000 units at launch (and 19 000 units LTD). The Nintendo Switch version of the sequel managed to sell more during its first week than the original game on the two platforms it was released on throughout its life.
Little Nightmares II does have the potential to sell over 100 000 units in Japan alone, if you factor in digital sales.
The rest of the Top 10 Software is made of the usual evergreen titles on Nintendo Switch, but without any of them hitting a particular milestone this week.

This week, Nintendo Switch sales went above the 100 000 units/threshold (as expected), with 109 615 units sold. They were boosted by the release of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and the special Nintendo Switch model (though it would appear that shipments for the latter were quite limited).
In comparison, the Nintendo Switch sold 80 312 units last year during the same week last year. The following week, shortages came and disrupted sales dramatically (sales fell by 50% Week on Week, despite ever increasing demand due to the upcoming release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons).
Therefore, it’s pretty safe to expect the gap between 2021 and 2020 sales to widen noticeably over the next few weeks, as it doesn’t look like Nintendo will have trouble keeping up with demand this year (and no Chinese factories shuitting down due to Covid-19 this time).
This week, the first 2021 milestone was reached: 1 million units YTD. In less than two months, the Nintendo Switch has already sold over 1 million units in 2021 in Japan alone (vs. 822 768 units last year). Depending on how big the Monster Hunter Rise boost end up being, the console could very well hit its second million by the end of the quarter.
YTD sales now stand at 18 413 863 units, with 3 296 194 units for the Lite model and 15 117 669 units for the OG model.
As for the Nintendo 3DS, it sold 797 units this week (vs. 824 units last week, and 757 units last year during the same week). YTD sales now stand at 4 459 units (vs. 8 393 units last year after the same amount of weeks), and LTD sales at 24 563 367 units.
