[Japan, Taiwan, S. Korea] Famitsu and Media Create sales for Week 32, 2020 (August 03 – August 09) [Top 30]
Here’s the latest sales reports from Famitsu and Media Create, with Hardware and Software sales for Week 32, 2020 in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea!
Famitsu (Week 32)
Week 32 was a pretty big week for the Nintendo Switch, and the usual evergreen titles saw a major increase in sales.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold nearly twice as much as the previous week, with 108 087 units sold (+91%). The big increase is primarily due to the much bigger shipments of Nintendo Switch bundles (not that demand for the game itself is slowing down!). It’s now sold 5 445 215 units at retail alone since launch, and it should be able to reach the 6 million units milestone by the end of Summer (late September).
Ring Fit Adventure also got a bigger shipment this week. It sold 66 828 additional units (+80%), which brings total sales to over 1.3 million units (1 309 424 units to be precise). Demand is still really strong, and unlikely to be fully met in the near future.
Finally, Paper Mario: The Origami King sales seem to be stabilising, with 19 089 units sold at retail (-16%). It looks like we can expect a modest increase during Obon (Week 33), though it remains to be seen how the game will fare once the Summer holiday season is over. Total sales now stand at 201 597 units at retail.

As mentioned above, the Nintendo Switch saw a major increase in shipments. The results: sales nearly doubled compared to Week 31, with no less than 173 338 units sold (up from 86 605 units during Week 31). Yes, we’re still in August, and not in the middle of the end of year Holiday season! It’s not clear how many units Nintendo will end up shipping during Obon week (Week 32), but it’s pretty safe to say it won’t be enough to fully meet demand.
And in case you’re wondering: yes, the only way to buy the console is still to take part in one of those infamous lotteries at retailers. Of course, with such big shipments, the odds of winning the right to buy the console are that much better!
This year, the Nintendo Switch sold about 4 times more than during the same week last year (41 963 units), which shows just how much stronger demand is at the moment. It’s not clear how long the “Animal Crossing: New Horizons wave” will go on, but it’s not farfetched to expect it to last at least until early 2021.
YTD sales now stand at 3 314 382 units, which is nearly twice as much as last year after the same amount of weeks (1 782 045 units). It looks like the gap between 2020 and 2019 may end up reach 2 million units, though this will most likely depend on how well September sales hold compared to September 2019 (which had the launch of the Nintendo Switch Lite).
LTD sales now stand at 14 697 813 units, with 2 478 806 units for the Lite model, and 12 219 007 units for the OG model. The Animal Crossing: New Horizons bundle account for a major part of the 139 497 units the OG model sold during Week 32.
